Bryant Nieling is a Dutch professional footballer who currently plays for SC Cambuur in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie. We spoke with him about his journey so far, the challenges he has faced along the way, and how he works—both on and off the pitch—towards becoming the best version of himself.
Bryant began his football career at RKFC Lindenheuvel and was scouted at a young age by Fortuna Sittard, where he progressed through the entire youth academy. Although he was named on the bench several times for Fortuna's first team during the 2022/23 season, he made his professional debut during a loan spell at MVV Maastricht in the 2023/24 season. There, he played 30 matches and proved his worth as a reliable defender.
In June 2024, he made the move to SC Cambuur, where he has since developed into a key player for the team. His strong performances earned him a spot in the ‘Team of the Week’ following a convincing 0–6 victory over Vitesse.
With his combination of physical strength, technical ability, and mental resilience, Bryant Nieling is a promising player to keep an eye on.

When did you know you wanted to become a professional footballer?
"From the moment I started playing football, I knew I wanted to go pro. It wasn’t a sudden decision, but more of a feeling that grew stronger the more time I spent on the pitch. Every training session, every match, reinforced my belief that this was what I wanted to do. From then on, everything revolved around improving, growing, and reaching the top. It wasn’t just a dream—it quickly became my goal."
What was your “All I Ever Wanted” when you were younger? Has that changed over the years?
"My biggest dream was always to become a professional footballer—not just for myself, but especially so I could take care of my family. That motivation has never changed. Of course, now that I’m older, new goals have come into the picture, but at the core it’s still the same: to make my family proud and give back for all the support they’ve given me."
What obstacles have you faced along the way, and how did you deal with them?
"There have definitely been tough moments. For example, when I didn’t get a contract or was sent back to the Under-21s and didn’t get much playing time. That was mentally challenging. But I always tried to stay positive and keep working hard. And when my opportunity came, I grabbed it with both hands—and that’s what I’ll keep doing."
Are there goals or dreams you’re working toward now, both on and off the pitch?
"Absolutely. Right now, I’m focused on getting physically stronger so I can eventually make the step to England. I love the intensity and level of the game there. Off the pitch, I want to keep developing myself as a person too."
How important is self-expression (through clothing or appearance, for example) to you as a footballer and as a person?
"Self-expression is really important to me. I literally can’t play in black boots—it just doesn’t feel right. Colorful boots give me a certain energy and confidence. Off the pitch, I like to dress well too—though I’ll admit I have expensive taste. Fashion is a way for me to show my personality."
